Subject: Door locks and Securtity Feature
I finally extracted both drivers and passengers side Yale door locks today. Was surpised when I realised that the cylinder barrel was identical to that of the ignition.

However, there is a clip and pin assembly which clicks on the end of the barrel. With this in place, key rotation is restrictred to around 30 degrees in either direction and it is not possible to open a door with standard ignition key.

Has anyone seen this extra level of theft protection, simple and effective ?

It will keep the lock smith busy cutting a replacement key, he hadn't seen this before...

One other small point, is that with the tabs attached to the back of the key barrels, they are either left or right handed to suit the door mechanism.
