Subject: 1936 Lagonda LG 45 Rapide on 22/03 in Germany

Spotted today:

Lagonda LG 45 Rapide in Germany for sale by Auction

Year 1936, Chassis Nr. 12009, Estimate EUR 310.000 - 350.000.

From 1936 on the Lagonda was built with a V12 engine even the 6 cylinder engine from Meadows was offered as well. With the same power the proven quality of the 6 cylinder was the better choice. This LG 45 became in its early years the sport body from the Lagonda Rapide. The technical specifications are correct. The car was overhauled by a renowned workshop.

(I note the usual minefield of errors, mistakes and ignorance. I tend to look on the Meadows unit as being more agricultural)

I have compared the pictures of this car to the LG45 which was sold recently in the UK, and which had also been improved to Rapide spec etc. Struck me as similar dare I say "replica".

Here is a good example of a more correct car, ex. Alan Good:

Hi
Looks like a standard LG45 Rapide to me with 6 cylinder Meadows engine. But is it one of the original 25 or a replica ? It is a bit difficult to see from the photo but one or 2 little details make it possible that it is an original one. I dont want to buy a catalogue ! Does anyone know which one it is ?
As many on the forum will know there was also a V12 Rapide but with a completely different body shape. That was also a very nice car !

Sorry, now found the other site SRD kindly referred us to. Now think it is one of the replica LG45 Rapides as have been able to look at some detail more closely. Any one with more information ?

This is not a genuine LG45 Rapide - I would suggest that the body lines and general shape at the rear indicate considerable variations from an original (I should say that no two original Rapides are identical either as they are hand built cars without the benefit of the complex jigs) There are very good replicas out there but, in my opinion, this is not one of them.

That's interesting. Many years ago I was told that LG45 Rapide registered CAR7 had been owned by Alan Good. Clearly his ownership of DLK--- is documented, so if what I was told wasn't an error, I wonder how many of the other 25 he owned.

He owned my V12 dhc from 1940 to 1946, but I know he owned other V12s, including dhcs, presumably for much briefer periods.
