First, Wingnut tool, now some moron on about ipads; is there no way we can restrict the Forum to club members, or is it deliberately open to owners who are not members, thus risking space wasters like these?!

Dear Laurence,

the idea is to have the forum open also to non club members, assuming that most will join the club later, but they are free to decide. Contributions totally out of focus will be removed and spammers banned. Of course if spam turns out to become to frequent we may have to restrict access to the forum

Regards
Peter

Hi Folks,

I agree with leaving the site open. I have done the same thing with the spares shop so anyone can go on the Lagonda Club web site and ORDER spares. However we carry out very careful checks on the orders that come in and non-members will NOT get parts SENT to them. Instead they may get a courteous message encouraging them to join (or re-join) the Club.

Nice one. Can't understand how people can own (and presumably have enthusiasm for) a particular car, and yet decide (surely it has to be a decision, one cannot possibly be ignorant of the fact that appropriate clubs exist) not to join the appropriate club. Apart from the very obvious spares & technical assistance, surely the camaderie entailed is reason enough.
The bizarre still happens though. Only recently Riley RM Club members spotted a restored RM at a show. Car completely unknown to the club, the owner had "restored" it sourcing bits from anywhere & everywhere...so although "restored" it's wrong almost everywhere. The Club membership is relatively cheap & the spares service second to none. Weird.

I think the thing is that when someone owns 20 or 30 cars and 10 different makes, then sometimes they don't want the hassle of joining each individual club, and they use specialists to look after their cars and therefore have no need for spares etc directly.
I can relate to this as have old motorbikes from several different types and I really don't want to be a member of numerous different clubs. (as a business I'm member of enough car clubs ;o) Although I am aware of the various clubs etc and have been in contact out of courtesy, after all it is them who correlate records etc that allows us to help gain info on what we think we are buying!

Julian.
