Subject: New Year's Day 2016 - Activities?
With the weather looking fair this week I wondered if members of the club typically gravitate towards one of the New Years Day meetings in the south east? Brooklands New Years Day Classic Meet, Bicester Heritage Centre (the airfield) or perhaps The Phoenix Hartley Wintney? Being new to the club I fancied a drive out on Friday and wondered if there is a traditional preference.

Richard,

I'm a staunch supporter of Brooklands and love everything about the place but in my opinion the NYD meeting has always been a bit disappointing. Hundreds of cars but more modern classics than older, more interesting, classics/vintage/veterans. Just not quite my cup of tea. I saw quite enough Ford Capri's, Escorts, Vauxhall Viva's and Hillman Avenger's when they were new! (I even had one of each!)

We are members of the Maidstone Historic Vehicle Group and they always have a very good road run and lunch on NYD so we will be joining them. I'm keener on driving my cars that parking up and looking at them so this is more our thing. If you're near me and fancy coming I would happily make the arrangements for you to be our guests.

It will be interesting to hear what other members have in mind so well done for starting this topic.

David

Good to hear from you David and you make a good point about the Capris and Escorts. I went to Bicester Heritage Centre last year and it's an enjoyable morning. For those who aren't familiar with the place it's the ex-RAF Bicester and still and active airfield for gliders and vintage aircraft. They are renovating the various buildings on the airfield and turning them into workshops and facilities for classic & vintage car specialists. It's about 40 miles for me so it combines a run out with a mug of tea and bacon sandwich and chat with fellow enthusiasts.
