Subject: Selling your Lagonda
A recent case lets me start this topic, my opinion:

When you want or have to sell your Lagonda, put it on this forum (for free) and in parallel in the club newsletter.

If you want it wider spread because you are in a hurry, use any of the dedicated internet adresses like prewarcar.com or carandclassic.co.uk or classiccarsforsale.com. Cost you very little time and money.

If you give your car to a dealer, he will be happy to make a big profit from all the hundreds and thousands of hours you have spent in restoring the car, increases the price by 30-50% from what he paid you, and then he puts it to the same places on the internet. And it may even happen that a next dealer makes profit out of it.

So I suggest: tell your friends first, use the internet for spreading the information, get more money and save the new buyer some money at the same time.

If you are looking for a Lagonda, use this forum and the club newsletter too. May be a club or forum member is prevented from giving his car (and some of his potential money) to the dealers.

Very useful advice indeed - however, there are a few other methods of selling your car; via eBay (and you can, as with every auction, determine your own reserve price) or you can give it in commission to a dealer; you name your price and the dealer sells it for you - what ever he makes more he may keep. The advantages of this are that the car will be nicely displayed and you don't have to take care of potential buyers yourself. And not every dealer is a crook - many of them have an excellent reputation and can often find the right buyer for you.

I am looking to buy a 3 litre DB DHC and see there is one for sael in Lancashire at £49K (reg 251 UXK) is this a good price. I tihnk it has been made form 2 saloons. Is this provenance an issue for its value? area values stable at the moment? rising or falling?. Are parts really difficult to source? I have had Lotus elans and MGA's in the past and run old style Saab convertibles as main drives. I am now looking for a 4 seater convertible classic and these have always caught my eye.

I believe the same dealer may have sold a gold DHC judging by his sold portolio, i woudl be interesdted to know what it sold for to help me judge this current car for sale.

It's two Saloons knitted together (it appears a 2-door with a 4-door). In any event, it looks 'wrong'. Consider (for instance) the top of the windscreen, the rear cabin area, the shape of the rear three quarters, the shape of the rump and the boot lid. So much is wrong. He went to all the trouble to try and recreate a Convertible - yet failed to remove the Series II 4-door Saloon trim from the front wings or manufacture the correct (or any) frames for the roll-down door windows or quarter lights.

But I bet I know what happened (just my supposition, of course). Having bought the hulk of a Saloon for what was probably peanuts I reckon he began to appreciate that the (formidable) expense of the project before him would not be justified by the (then) market value of the finished restoration. So, he decided to destroy two cars of modest (then current) value to create a so-called "Drophead Coupe" of supposed higher value. Either that or he was stupid enough from the off to think that it would be an easy job to 'covert' a saloon into a Convertible.

In fact, what he has banged together wouldn't be given house room by any pukka enthusiast of the marque, obviously. I only hope that his misleading advertisement does not trap an unwary buyer unversed in all things Lagonda.

All of these lovely cars were made in tiny numbers, too few of which have survived - the guy needs stringing up, in my book.
