Subject: Air filter

For some time I've felt that the engine air filter on the LG45 is a bit basic. Naturally I don't wish to modify the nicely made manifold and its air cleaner/silencer cylindrical housing mounted on the bulkhead. But perhaps some sort of modern air filter element could be fitted discreetly inside the cylinder? Has anybody tried this, or any thoughts on this in general?

Dear Bill,
my feeling is that no special air filter is needed regarding the typically rather low miles per year the cars are used and assuming there is no use in very dusty environment ("off road" in summer). The cars have been living 100´000+ miles without it. The other point is that a very fine air filter doesn´t help breathing of the engine.

Thanks for that. I've seen some clever adaptations of modern low-restriction K & N air filters on vintage engines, but as you say on low mileage engines on good roads it probably isn't important.
