Subject: Fuel cap and fog lights

There are two wires in the front wings, two front bumper fixings and two switches on the dash marked 'fog', but I know for a fact my car didn't have fog lights in 1963 - were they removed or never fitted? On the other hand there doesn't appear to be an allocated switch for the fuel cap - where should this be and why isn't it with all the other toggles, especially when there is even a 'spare' toggle available?

I suspect that your fog lamps were removed at some stage, like mine were.

My car also has the two fog lamp switches and current redundant wiring to both front wings, and of course f/bumper attachments.

On my car:

3 switches etc under dash – knurled knob is radio balance (front/rear), push button on right is to open the fuel filler cap. Middle switch is for the heated rear window, but appears to be non standard fitment.

Thanks Simon, that's very useful - I have exactly those additional switches / knobs which may means that they are original? Would fog lights be mentioned on the build sheet (not mentioned on mine) and why remove them so soon I wonder? I don't think they look very nice personally.

My car has the radio balance knob and adjacent fuel filler release but not the heated rear screen switch, as Simon shows, under the dashboard. Also I think the front loom for all AM at the time had wiring for fog/spot lamps even if never fitted; as it happens both my cars did (I have 1960's photos which show them) but long since removed

I knew this conversation on the forum would jog my memory.

Guy - the previous owner of 129, had tidied up his under dash switches, and the effect is much neater, with the extra under panel now removed.

Also note that the under-dash trim has been restored, originally I believe it was an off-tan color, but the black is far more suitable.

When I finally get round to that stage, I think I may well follow this route.

Here's a picture of my dash as it is at the moment, the switches in question are mounted into the lower curved panel not on a separate plate. The lower panels on mine are red leatherette - I was planning to re-cover in red leather...

Most of the electrics are fairly straight forwards but the circuit for the interior lights is a real pain as each courtesy light is controlled by three different switches, I've spent two days just following wires!
