Subject: New to the Forum

Hello everyone,
I've just joined the forum and I'm glad such a thing exists, so I thought I'd post an introduction.

I am now looking after my father's LG6 DHC due to his age. It's been in our family since 1966, and was regularly used in Vintages Sports Car Club (Victoria) events up until 1985 when my parents moved to South Australia. They remained there until moving back to Victoria a couple of years ago, but it was well-known in Adelaide's Sporting Car Club circles.

I don't know much early history of the car, other than I believe it was purchased in the UK by its second or third owner, a well known Australian VSCC identity, who used it for his European Grand Tour before importing it. It passed through one or two more hands before my father saw it advertised for £500, buying it for A$900 in the year Australia changed to decimal currency. We believe it's the only one in the country.

He tells me it was a drab green colour when he bought it, typical of colours of the late Thirties I suppose, and he spent hours with wet and dry preparing it for a colour change to cream. It has been re-upholstered 10 or more years ago and a new LMB block more recently, but remains largely unrestored and kept in running condition. It appeared at the Lagonda gathering held in Victoria a few year back. It was also displayed at Motorclassica last year, next to a n M45R from NSW.

I hope the above was of some interest to you, I look forward to looking through the various topics, and perhaps contributing to the knowledge required to keep these great cars running.

Regards, Mike

Hi Mike

Welcome to the forum. The LG6 is a most impressive car and it is nice to have such a great family history.
If you are seeking its early history do contact Jon and Chris Leo (L2 in the club register). Their late father Maurice held the production records for the late cars and it may be they have details of your LG6. Some years ago, for a modest sum, Maurice searched out and sent me details of what the factory had on my LG45. It gave me the original owner and those that followed up until 1946

Hope this produces some early history for you

Best Regards
Mark

Thanks Mark, that's a great tip.
A couple of other things I can share is that this car is chassis/engine no. 12310 (ie. the first), the other is that dad recalls another colour under the drab green as being a kind of blue.

It must be one of the few 1937 cars, and even fewer DHCs. Perhaps it was one of the cars displayed at Earls Court that year?

Thanks again, Mike

Hi Michael, this is a great place for detailed information, there are some very well informed experts here. Also, and especially as I see you are in Australia, there is a Facebook group which was started by a group of Australian Lagonda owners, although it has a worldwide membership now. If you do facebook you may want to join that too as it's a good place to share photos and exchange a few lighthearted topics, there may even be some owners near you. Just search for Lagonda Owners Group.
