Hi all,
As I approach reupholstery of my car I am perplexed by the current lack of interior door releases at the front. Does anyone know if they were fitted to all factory 14/60 semi-sports?

The photograph shows the normal sliding door opener which appears on the early cars (11.9 and 12/24) and the later 2 Litre
I guess the 14/60 also had the same slider as I don't think Lagonda would have expected a customer to put their hand outside the body to open the door from the external handle.
That said, the spring which gives resistance against the opener often weakens and need replacing. I guess sometimes when the mechanism no longer opens the latch, rather than repair it, it is just removed and the owner puts their hand outside to open using the handle!
Not sure this helps very much
Regards
Mark

Mark,
Thanks for this. Yes it does help. I don’t suppose anyone knows of a secondhand pair of these sliding door openers do they?
Having said that I can see no holes in the timber of 5he door frame - I guess they must be secured to the frame?
Also have spoken to a previous owner who is pretty sure that it did not have them in 1959.

Just for general information, I have now dismantled the near side door lock and found that the internal opening lever has bee crudely hacksawn off just inside the lock. I have commissioned replacements to be made from mild steel by laser cutting. I’m just hoping that they will be adequate.
Further careful investigation of the door frame has revealed some screw holes - I shall improvise the lock slides.

Hi Graham,

It would be nice to see photos of what you have found and what you have done. Very helpful.

Hi Colin,
I’ve been so into my Lagonda that I missed this post. In the following pics you should see
1. Lock with sawn off release
2. Sawn off release lever
3. New Laser cut lever
4. Re-assembled lock with new lever
If I’ve uploaded correctly. . . . ,

Fascinating, I have the V12's boot lock in pieces, and there are many similarities. For one thing, it's only less slightly crudely made ... I guess it didn't need to be pretty.
