Subject: Re: Kigass copper pipe Can I revive this thread from 2011 and ask if anyone can point me to instructions on how to rebuild my Ki-Gass pump? My 16/80 starts very easily without priming but as the pump is there I would like it to work even if it seems I don't need it! Thanks Rich... |

Subject: Re: Kigass copper pipe There is zero resistance in the pumping action so there is almost certainly no petrol being pumped. When I first got the car 3 years ago you could feel the fuel being pumped after a few pumps but now it just feels empty. I haven't worried too much because the car starts ok. |

Subject: Re: Kigass copper pipe It's not a complicated thing Richard, but it is a bit fiddly. A few ball bearings, springs, a diaphragm and graphite cord top seal the shaft. I think the piston has a square section o-ring that could need replacing. Once you start stripping it you'll need to perservere though. I have some graphite cord left over from when I did the one on my Aston. You're welcome to it. I'm by no means an expert but if there'f no resistance my guess is that the spring/ball is gummed up and will just need cleaning. I am pretty sure that some vintage tractors used these as well and that you can by a service kit. aerovintagespares.com used to sell replacements once but I've no idea if they still do. Good luck, David |

Subject: Re: Kigass copper pipe Hi Richard, Check in the clubs old technical bulletins. There is somewhere a how to rebuild of the kigass pump (they fitted these pumps to the Spitfire and Hurricane by the way). The club spares also stock the ball bearings. Best Regards Chris |

Subject: Re: Kigass copper pipe I believe they also fitted Kigass to certain oldish tractors so spares may be available in that world as well. |

Subject: Re: Kigass copper pipe Thanks for all the advice chaps, it's appreciated. Sounds like I simply need to remove it one wet Saturday and spread the parts out on the kitchen table! A job for when my wife is visiting her mother in Somerset... There is a tin of waxed string among the spares I inherited with the car, perhaps this was intended for the Ki-Gass pump? |

Subject: Re: Kigass copper pipe Hi Richard, Do you have the Winter 2006/2007 club magazine No.112? There is an article in there on how to rebuild/modify the Ki-Gas pump. If not I can PM scanned images to you on FB. Best Regards Chris |
