Subject: Re: radio for rapide Mine has a Motorola 707 (or 717T see below) which is original to my car. They do turn up on eBay every so often - like here... eBay link to 717T |

Subject: Re: radio for rapide Jay, depending on which car you have, to be authentic the radio may need the word lagonda illiminated in red when swirched on, behind or embedded in the wavelength scale I know where my spare radio was a few years ago but it may now be in Scandinavia (long story!) Again if you PM me, I might be able to point you in its possible direction |

Subject: Re: radio for rapide Jay, It may be that you have to buy a standard radio as Christian illustrates then modify it with the Lagonda name, which is what I guess AML did in 62-64. It's just the word Lagonda rather than the winged logo etc Regards David |

Subject: Re: radio for rapide Yes, I would like to see this also, though I don't think I will alter mine as it's original to my car. Having said that I would like the challenge but I think it would involved the moulding, or fine painting of a small piece of red plastic? A good radio off eBay is around £200... |

Subject: Re: radio for rapide I can't do a picture of my car's radio, but here's a brief description, referring to Christain's photo above which has an illuminated red M - for Motorola - in the middle and which if I recall appears behind the wavelength needle. Well, if you take the front off the radio, I'd guess you'd find this M is on a small piece of thin clear perspex or similar. Substitute a similar piece of perspex with LAGONDA on it, with the word about 2.5cm long, text about 4mm high. It's probably imperial measure so 1 inch long and 3/16 high. The font is pretty plain, not recognisably a trade-mark font - not Arial (too new?), but something like Calibri or Century Gothic. Hope this helps! Sorry, the backing is clear, the letters are red, and cannot be seen when the radio is switched off If ever you enter a concours the judges will not be qualified to know the difference anyway... |
