Subject: Rear wheel bearings

Has anyone replaced rear wheel bearings on a 2 litre? It appears from the manual that one removes the half shaft and then remove the splined rudge wheel carrier on the bench, is this correct? Thanks, Bill

Hi Bill,
Yes, remove complete halfshaft, remove hub with a press and a lot of force usually, then remove the bearing housing and replace the bearing.

Julian

Hi Folks,

The Lagonda Club spares operation sells a hub puller. If you go to http://www.lagondaclub.co.uk/spares/ and then enter the part number: BRK211 in the search section, you should get the puller details.

Having one of these should help enormously with the job

Thanks, final couple of questions, do you know the size of the large nut that holds the splined hub in place?

Also, it looks as if it would be easier (with the puller) to remove the hub first as this allows better access to the bearing housing nuts, is that right?

Thanks again, whilst it does not look like a big job I really do not want to damage any component on the car!

Regards, Bill

Hi Bill,
Yes, just pull the hub and half shaft out together and split them on the bench and in a press. You would never get the hub off without a press anyway if it has been fitted properly! you generally need a hell of a lot of presure and often heat as well.
