The ribbed aluminium plates look exceedingly like V12 water jacket plates to me!
"M45" on the starter believe it or not, is coincidence, but that doesn't mean it might not be correct for the car. "M" is the Lucas type designation for a starter, & "45" reflects the diameter, 4.5 inches. My LG6 (similar Meadows engine) currently has a non-original M35G starter, but I bought an M45G at an autojumble to replace it, as I don't think the M35G is man enough. If both starters fit the mounting holes for the starter on your engine, I'd guess one is original & another bought as a spare.

the smaller black painted starter has M45 stamped on it but the larger appears to have the same mounting pattern. Is it correct as well? are any of the other bits shown Lagonda? I realize the shocks are too small for the M45. Any ideas?

Thanks Laurence, I bought the water jacket plates at Hershey just because they said Lagonda on them and there was little else there to buy for my car! The M45 stamp on the starter seemed strange and now I know why. Cheers, Barry
