My getting tyres for the Lagonda is fun! I knew that the height of the tyre would be a problem when compared with the original Dunlop SP68 205HR15 Radials when fitted. These were approx 720mm Tall. I'm running two sets of wheels, one with Pirelli Cints 205R15TL the other on the latest Avon 205HR15 Textiles. The Pirellis come in at about 690mm tall & the Avons are 708mms tall! All of these heights are with Nil Load. Other tyres come in even lower than these.
My question for all is, using the original Dunlop Pressed Steel wheels, am I OK to use tubeless tyres with no innertubes?
Also should anyone have any original wheels going spare, I'd love to buy them. By for now! Guy.

Hi Guy, have you got any further with your tyre research? I noticed that LR146 has Pirelli P3000's on the original steel rims... I worked out that the original tyre size of 70-10 15" equates to either 215 80 15 or 225 75 15 - both of which are very close to the original. The only radial tyres I can find in this size are either for a van or a 4x4...

Christian hi

Have you amde any progress with suitable tyres for the car or are you planning to lower the suspension and put in a Ferguson 4 wheel drive unit and make it into a 4 x 4 ?

Seriously ,please let me know what you come up with here, I know that soon enough I will be in the market for a set of 5 tyres as well.

If we can find three people, might be able to get a slightly better deal with the tyres?

Simon

Guy has already been using the Pirelli tyres, and is very happy with them.

Anyone have experience with the Avon Turbo-speed tyres ?

Hello all,
I have now put nearly 5,000 miles on the DB Lagonda Rapide. 3,500 miles on the D type wheels with Pirelli Tyres & 1,500 miles on the original wheels with tubes & Avon Steel Radials. Both wheels & tyres are good. I would say the Pirelli's deliver a marginal better ride & grip. Certainly if you are a spirited driver they are a better all weather tyre. I have just about taken both sets up to max speed & neither have scared me beyond the norm
