Subject: 3.0 litre saloon 1933 for sale in Holland Gert van Logtenstein has this car for sale, how do the pre-war folks rate this car to buy. He claims it has a nut and bolt restoration, he is looking for 60k pounds complete ? Says it has "new (replacement) engine ? new gears in gearbox new wheels and hubs most off ashframe new compleet new iron coach new radiator" http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C316281 Is this car known and how does it compare to a 4.5 litre LG45 saloon, pricewise they have a similar market value. Subject: Re: 3.0 litre saloon 1933 for sale in Holland The seller is proposing to sell the car complete or without engine/gearbox. I think it is over-priced and am trying to get some idea of market price for a good restored 3.0 litre saloon. |

Subject: Re: 3.0 litre saloon 1933 for sale in Holland I've sent him a message, Simon, but I'm still not sure what's going on. Why would he (or anyone) split up a great and perfectly viable car? It makes no commercial (or other) sense to me - not to mention, as h14 suggests, the vandalism involved in such an exercise. |

Subject: Re: 3.0 litre saloon 1933 for sale in Holland I knew this car before it was bought and restored by the present owner. It is a basically, correct, sound car and was a big restoration project. I know a number of very experienced people who who have looked to buy the car and I would be willing to translate some of the "Dutch English" descriptions of the restoration into a more idiosyncratic native English interpretation. I certainly hope Gert sells it as a complete entity, it would be a great waste of his huge efforts to split it up. I suggest anyone seriously interested gives me a call, my contact details are available via the Club. I like 3 Litre saloons and this one has style. Especially if you have kids or feel the cold. Subject: Re: 3.0 litre saloon 1933 for sale in Holland Chaps, Gert has confirmed to me that he is simply offering the body for sale separately because he wants to sell his car but no one is interested in it as a saloon. So - he reasons - he will rebuild the car as a tourer and make his car much more marketable. It is a sad - but (historically) familiar - story, as all will understand. |

Subject: Re: 3.0 litre saloon 1933 for sale in Holland Yep, Saloons are always expensive to restore and then worth much much less when restored. Mind you the car was dirt cheap when it was for sale before Gert bought it, though even then was still a little too much for me at the time. I hope it finds the right owner. Mind you, IMHO it's going to cost £30k to do a decent tourer body plus trim and it will then still only be a re-bodied saloon. To get top money as a tourer it will have to be detail-perfect and that is expensive! Colin |
