Subject: Which battery to use?

The battery compartment appears to measure L375 x W190 x H150mm, most car batteries are a minimum of 175mm high - am I mis-measuring the available space (taking into account the fibreglass lid) or do you have to get a very low battery?

The battery may well sit proud of the compartment, hence the raised lid, about another 25 mm. Fit the biggest Ampere-Hour you can find with the terminals in the right place for the leads (positive on forward outboard side if I recall)

The metal section is about 4" (100mm) deep excluding the base board and the fibreglass section is about 2" (50mm) - so obviously together that's 150mm. Lucas do a simular battery which is L350 x H175 x W175mm - 95Ah - the hight appears to be the problem. The position of the terminals won't matter as I'm reversing the polarity and fitting a new earth via the isolation switch.

Sounds as if your battery compartment is shallower than on my car, where the metal section looks (from memory) 6-7 inches deep above the base board

Just re-measured from under and I think 175mm will just fit...
