What was original? Chrome, Nickel or paint ( black? silver?)

Cant say for absolute certain but the finish on my very untouched M45 column was chrome. The chrome looked very old and original as if it had been on there for many years ! From the history of the car I doubt that it had been chromed after the car was built.

I think for an M45 it should be chrome. Earlier cars - such as late two litres might use nickel, even when chrome is used outside.

My M45 looks lovely with its chromed steering column

Colin and Bill, Thanks for the info. I suspected it might have been chromed although mine looks like it was painted silver . I'll have a closer look. Can you please post some pictures of your cars ?
Last week I viewed Peter Ramm's beautiful M45, coincidentally the "sister" car to mine as both were owned concurrently in the 1960's by the late Canadian naval commander Warren-Poole . The steering column in his is also chromed . It is inspirational to hear a nice M45 run.

Hi,
I think it was an option to have chrome as we have seen all from paint colours to chrome.
Am sure several of the cars we have seen are absolutely un-restored and as period correct as possible.

Not Nichol though, that was "old hat" in 33 on, and Chrome was the new thing!

Happy Christmas,
Julian
