Subject: LR101 for sale

LR101 the Touring produced first car is also now coming up for sale.

If you want a Rapide, then this really is the one to buy, first in the series, and in fine fettle. Car with Roman purple paint-work and 4-Speed ZF box.

This car is being sold privately, and I have no connection whatsoever with the sale.

Hi Simon, which gearbox? If 4 speed manual, it'll be the DB box from DB4 surely. Where is the car advertised, do you know?

It's advertised for sale again with Dylan Miles (not on the website but advertised in this month's AM Quarterly).

I wonder if the seller is going to tell interested parties that his engine is in our car? Laughing

I met Dylan recently at Pugsley and Lewis whilst on an AMHT task. Also saw 108 there

I don't know the chap (Dylan) at all. £245,000 is a keen price. From the photographs (it's up on the website now), the car looks to be in very good condition, although why (for goodness sake) hasn't someone put back the hubcaps?

NB I see that they have (in fact) put up an image of the build sheet with the original engine number (101) crossed out and 137 inserted in manuscript (which chimes with engine 101 being in our car, 137). The interesting thing about 101, of course, is that it's the only Rapide engine with 3.7 litre displacement, rather than the standard 4 litre.

I've only seen 101 in the flesh once, at Silverstone, so knew about the rear fins, but had not realised the front wheel arches are not flared. Agree it would look better with new hubcaps

Interesting to see the build sheet say the original engine is 400/101 but the blurb says 3.7. Other differences I can spot include nice front seats with central arm rests, window switches in the front doors, non-Yale locks. I wonder what the toggle switch under the dash is for if not for petrol filler cap release? And as the blurb says it's had the Graham Whitehouse auto box change. No picnic tables in the back either, ashtrays instead

I saw this car around 2 years ago and have lots of pictures, it is very nice. Hub-caps would look a lot better on the car, agreed.

Never really worked out why this car has the engine from LR137, but clearly happened within a year of that car being made. Currently LR101 has the 4.0 litre engine. Is the engine in 137 still 3.7 litres or is it now 4.0 litres ?

Highly original, ummh perhaps, but it has had a lot of restoration work, so would be interested to see underneath.

Overall, interesting to see that the first DB4 type dashboard must have been changed early on, in the cars life.

At 245k, not sure it would make this, Roman Purple is a good strong colour and accentuates the cars lines very well. Not sure I like the interior colour, but that is just me...

This car is far more interesting than a standard DB car..
