Subject: Saying Hello and my new 16/80

Hello, following on from my posts on this forum back in July & August I have taken the plunge and become the proud owner of the 16/80 pictured below. I am buying it from a Lagonda Club member who meticulously rebuilt it between 2000 to 2007.

I know some of the detailing is not correct cosmetically but I can live with that and correct it in due course. Incidentally, did 16/80s with the T7 body ever have folding windscreens like some I've seen on the M45 T7? And... did any of them have the 'Double Diamond' embossed on the passenger's door interior? This one does not.

I will be familiarising myself with it this coming weekend so maybe I will meet some of you at the AGM.

Rgds Rich...

Well done Rich, you will not regret it.

Regarding a fold flat windscreen ... not as standard.
All 16/80 windscreens (somebody will probably correct me on this) were hinged at the top to fold outwards from the bottom to allow for de-misting of the screen.
They would also have had an external Klaxon wiper motor fitted (very few 16/80’s still have this arrangement).

See you at the AGM

Best Regards
Chris

Thanks chaps, I'll post up more when I get it. On that subject, I may not get to the AGM this weekend as I only get the car on Saturday so it may be at an event later in the year before I meet some of you. :-) Rich

Great news, Richard, and well done. I will be at the AGM, without any kind of nice car accompanying me. You could always do the same? Grinning

Best,

Tim

Oh go on Rich, break it in & bring it to the AGM.
I'll have my usual ton of spares with me as no doubt will others if anything goes wrong (which it won't).
Its also meant to be suuny on the Sunday or though I may now have cursed that.

Regarding the above post and the wiper arrangement, was this the same external wiper which was used on the later 3 litre and 4.5 saloons ? I have a spare wiper of this type but it doesnt seem to be made by Klaxon - ie I cant find any maker name on it. Mine is a long rectangular tube with a motor bolted to it. Is this the same ?
Thanks for any input.

Hello Bill,
I'm not 100% sure, I think there is a period picture in one of the Lagonda books showing this wiper motor attached to a 3 litre Saloon (I'll have a look in the attic this evening to see if I can find the book).
Regarding the Klaxon branding, it's only on the riveted on plaque.
This plaque has to be removed to get to the bolt attaching the motor to the rectangular tube so it's easily lost/broken.

I've attached a picture of my one (yet to be fitted) and one I saw on a 3.5 litre tourer at the AGM in 2011

Best Regards
Chris
