Subject: Leather Bonnet Straps?

What is the collective view on leather bonnet straps on 16/80s? Looking at pictures on the internet it seems they are common on cycle winged cars but less so on those with swept wings. I ather they were a prerequisite at Brooklands and I rather like them but would it be a faux pas to add them e.g. like on this car (which is not mine just as an example) Smiling

Don't they flap and scratch the paint? Your wonderful car looks just splendid without leather straps

Agree with David. As you say, bonnet straps were a requirement for racing at Brooklands etc pre-war. Because of this, they appear to have become a "go faster" accessory; a shame to spoil an original car.

Fair enough, it's staying as it is! Laughing

Hello Chaps,
My 16/80 has a leather bonnet strap.
It is a go faster accesory for sure and I have only left it on the car because its better than the holes drilled into the bonnet to attach the sodding thing by the previous owner.
Leave your car original and unspoilt.
Oh and yes, the strap scuffs the paint.
Cheers
Chris
