Subject: Correct spin off oil filter for LG 45 engine

Can anyone tell me what spin off oil filter they use for the LG 45 engine please ?
I have one of Wessex Workshops adaptors fitted so that I can use a modern oil filter but the filters I have previously used seem to have disappeared from sale
I originally used Crosland 307 but I cannot find these now.
I then used Coopers Fiaam FT 4876 but, likewise, these do not seem to be available now. In any event I think that Coopers Fiaam is now Fram and I have been warned off using Fram as I think there were some problems with some of their oil filters. A Fram number of PH 2821 or 2895 was mentioned.
I originally understood that the filter for an Audi 100 was the correct one but there is apparently a long filter and also a short one. For the Lagonda we need the longer one as I understand that it has a "by pass filter inside" .
The correct size of filter is 149mm long and 76mm O/D which I am using now (my last one !).
What are others using please ?
Thanks for any advice.

Thanks Mark for the reply.
It doesnt look exactly the same - but I suppose all filters look vaguely alike ! My reference to Audi 100 might be incorrect and maybe I shouldnt have mentioned it.
I wondered what spin off filters other LG45 owners are using ?

I am no LG45 owner, but here is a crossreference table for Crosland 307 (looks like a helpfull page):

From my workshop note the spin filter numbers are: Cooper Z7, Fram PH2821A, Mahle OC132. I normally just go to our local motor factors quote the current number and they do the rest. I think the Fram may have been superseded and I am currently using the Mahle filters that from memory are around £7 each. Hope that helps.

Stephen thanks very much for the information. I think the Cooper is part of the Fiaam/Fram lot so I will probably avoid that. I will try and track down the Mahle.
Peter, thanks for the link which I had already found. However it doesnt seem to differentiate between the long one and the short one so it did not really help me - hence the post.
Any other suggestions gratefully received from other LG45 owners.
Thanks.

Like all things on the internet you have to have an open mind. However in the link below different filters have been pulled apart and some of the deficiencies are obvious. This is one of the reasons why I would prefer in future not to use Fram/Fiaam oil filters - unless anyone knows any better ?

However looking at other things on the internet in Fram's favour the answer probably is to make certain that you are not supplied with old stock filters but only their very up to date ones.

Thanks very much for the Mahle suggestion Stephen. I have never heard of them but I am sure they are very good ! Does any one else have any other information please ?

Dear Bill,

In my LG45 I use Mahle OX 50 oil filters. They are 149mm long but only 70mm OD and 33mm ID. I hope this helps.

Regards,

David
