Subject: LG6 rear axle spider (differential) gears worn
My rear axle (Lagonda's own as opposed to Salisbury, therefore same as LG45) is being rebuilt, using 3.15:1 (Le Mans ratio) cw&p. It seems the star gears & pin they run on are quite worn. Am I right in thinking these will carry on indefinitely in a worn state, or does anyone know of them failing eventually? I can buy new gears but the total bill is already high without adding more to the burden! If it helps, the car is a special, weighing only 26cwt, but performance will be used. Also is there likelihood of damage being caused by continuing wear of these gears to other parts in the axle?
