Subject: Sending engine from France to UK for rebuild; customs issues?
At last looking at sending my LG6 engine to a specialist in the UK. Will probably use DHL (other recommendations welcome). I thought their driver, or their office, would prepare/complete all the necessary documentation. Instead, the small print indicates not! My main concern is that surely no duty or other charge can be due, as the "export" is temporary only, and the engine is not being sold.
Can anyone offer advice regarding this ... both as to the forms I'll need, and how to complete them correctly so as to avoid unwanted cost/delay issues?

A side issue is that, strapped to the engine, thus integral to the shipment, will be a box of parts already removed and new parts for the rebuild. Will I need to list every part?

Laurence, I investigated exactly the same process in order to send a gearbox to the EU for repair and return with a specialist. I found it impossible to discover any way to do this. The only regulations seem to relate to businesses not private owners. I came to the conclusion that the only way was for the repairing company to arrange this for you or for you to use a specialist carrier who completes all the necessary paperwork. However I never found a specialist carrier willing to do this . Therefore I gave up and the gearbox is still with me ! I think it is possible that in a year or two things will be easier or clearer but not now !

Hi Bill,
I'm getting to a similar conclusion. Messaged DHL a good week ago, specifically "Customs queries", and still waiting for a response. It might be simpler to get the engine running again and kick this ball down the line ... as you say things may get easier in time.
