I've just had the quote back for a run of 50 and it's not cheap (well that's no suprise!). Cost is £455 so £9.10 each...is that totally out of the question?

Hello Christian,
On the surface of it this would at first appear to be expensive! However the other side of the coin suggests otherwise. A short run of bespoke items that are impossible to get from another sauce or car! I have been to all sorts of auto jumbles & showed the originals to many with no success! Presumable these will be drilled out to receive the threaded rod end & polished? If too hard, splitting may be a problem that existed on the originals. I would suggest that the hole should only be a marginally smaller than the rod & malleable glue used! I'm still keen for 6 please! Just out of interest, a similar item made from alloy would be about £25 each.
Regards,
Guy

Hi Guy, thanks for your input on this matter. I believe the thread is cut by the metal shaft as it's screwed on, the hole is slightly oversized so this would work on the softer plastic. The finish would be as original - black plastic...

Thats fine for 6 lock buttons for me please.

Now, I can stop looking for them. Although I imagine, a source will turn up once they are all made...

Many thanks for this initiative, it is greatly appreciated.

By chance, I have finally found the source of these door pins/pulls. A friend had a Humber Sceptre parked outside his house, and I went to see it...

They were used on the Humber Sceptre Mk 1, made from 1961 - 1967 and the early Hillman Hunter which shares many parts with the car; the Ford Cortina Mk 1 made from 1962 - 1967, and maybe other 1960's Fords.

On the Humber they are the same dimensions as on the Rapide, whilst on the Fords, they are 5 mm longer, so can be easily cut to size. The door pulls on the Fords are in black and also a silver finish plastic.

I picked up a good set of four, on eBay, see the following link:

Good find! I have to confess that I bid on them too having bought a set before Christmas from a person who was breaking a Sceptre. Some have slightly sharper flute edges as well, I think these tend to be earlier ones. A lawyer I work with remembered seeing these lock pins on a car when he was a boy, eventually he remembered exactly what car - amazing!

I was given a spare set of these horn shaped door pins for my Rapide, source was interesting. The flutes are all identical, so have a perfect set for the car now which is pleasing.

A Hillman Minx (series 5), which was being broken for parts.

If I am correct the Rootes Car group owned both Hillman, Humber, Singer and Sunbeam amongst other makes. So no doubt other sources from within this group as well.

There are quite a few similarities between the Rapide and Humber Imperial / Super snipe...

I'm now after the chrome surrounds which go at the base of the lock pins...
