Subject: Door locks and Securtity Feature
I finally extracted both drivers and passengers side Yale door locks today. Was surpised when I realised that the cylinder barrel was identical to that of the ignition.

However, there is a clip and pin assembly which clicks on the end of the barrel. With this in place, key rotation is restrictred to around 30 degrees in either direction and it is not possible to open a door with standard ignition key.

Has anyone seen this extra level of theft protection, simple and effective ?

It will keep the lock smith busy cutting a replacement key, he hadn't seen this before...

One other small point, is that with the tabs attached to the back of the key barrels, they are either left or right handed to suit the door mechanism.

What appears to be a period lock from a Rover P5 which may bebe suitable for a Rapide, is available on eBay with key etc. The centre stem section will no doubt need adapting for the Rapide.

These locks were originally supplied by Yale, and of a pattern long discontinued, not doubt used on other cars as well.

Were these locks used on RR around that period as well? The eBay lock looks quite different, would it have to be heavily modified?
