3 improvements or faults corrected on my DB3ltr
In the beginning the car often stopped after some more demanding driving or when slow in towns. Reason was overheating of the coil ! since I moved it up (see photo) no more such problems
I replaced one of the 6V batteries by a black wooden box (see photo) made to fit and run with only one modern (but black)12V batterie. These modern batteries are more powerful per volume so this one has about the same capacity as the two 6V ones and one 12V is cheaper than only one 6V.
For the second time now I had air leakage through the suction tubing to the windscreen wiper reservoir (driven by vacuum from the suction of the engine) This tubing is becoming brittle. This smal tubing is next to the vacuum to the brake servo (see photo). Result of leakage is uneven running when idling.

Hi Peter,
I'd suggest you carry a spare coil as this may be indicative of a developing problem with the coil itself. If it's a new coil, I'd be tempted to replace it with the original, if that was working fine. Unfortunately many modern replacement electrical products for our cars prove unreliable...particularly it seems voltage regulators and rotor arms.

Dear Laurence,
I first echanged the coil in the original position and the problem was the same, then I put another new coil in the new position.
At least the coil has an easyer life there because where it sits originally it is a very hot place and then of course it heats up a bit more itself by the current flowing. May be coils from the 50s and 60s were better made to stand high temperatures.
Some spare parts are in my battery replacing box, some more in the trunk..

Peter hi
This is a very common problem with the 3.0 litre. The engine bay actually gets very hot from my limited experience and talking to other owners, it is a well documented problem
Many people have moved their coil, and too good effect.
As for new replacement coils, I have several nos ones. Have given up with new ones, after trying two, both of which have proved to be unreliable.
