Subject: 2-Litre Wanted

Hi
I am looking for either a HC or LC 2-litre Lagonda tourer , to use, not to leave idle in the garage!

I would prefer to buy privately if I can because this would mean that I can look at the car without being intimidated by auction attendees, and more importantly, enjoy a chat with the owner about his car, its history, past use, repairs made etc, in other words, gleen the personality of the vehicle. So if you have an interesting car for sale, or know of a sound car for sale, please contact me on 01460 55955 (Peter) THANK YOU Grinning

Hi Peter,

Good choice. I took my 1927 HC 2 Litre out last weekend. It makes all the right noises, handles well and is fun to drive.

The HC speed model at the recent Richard Edmonds auction at Castle Combe sold for £48,400 including buyers premium. It did not strike me as a particularly attractive example but would certainly respond from an enthusiastic owner improving it. IMHO the best cars change hands privately - largely by word of mouth, before they get near a dealer. If you have not done so already, join the Lagonda Club and start going to gatherings. Maybe you will hear of one from your new friends. But be warned; people keep them for a long time. I have only had mine for 20 years and have no intention of selling it. They do change hands, but usually discreetly!

Good luck!

Colin

Thank you for your valued comments. I well know that good cars are seldom sold. However, I am looking for the right car, and I know it will turn-up when it is ready to. I am indeed a Lagonda CC member and will start attending events. I do have several other vehicles having been in the Vintage scene for many years, mainly with MG.

All the best PETER

Hi Peter,
Glad to see at last you have decided the HC Lagonda is better than your MG. You know I have owned both my MG and Lagonda HC for many, many years and have always said the Lagonda is a better car by design and far more reliable. Having said that I do enjoy driving my MG providing it keeps going.
Good luck with your hunt.

Mike

Thank you for your good wishes. Certainly the build quality of a vintage 2-litre is much better than that of a Mk I MG and in my experience, given the smaller engine of the 2-litre compared with the 2.5-litre of the Mk I, there appears to be little lost in performance. My Mk I has gone to my son in law to play with, which is why I am looking for a 2-litre HC. All seasons greetings.

PETER
