4 lug socket for changing gear box, rear end oil on Invicta (Meadows 4.5l)
Hi out there... I found using a screwdriver and hammer to spin off the castellated oil caps for the gear box and the rear end was not the best method. So, if you have similar oil filler caps to this, with a castellated top, then try the pictured powerbuilt spindle nut socket. It takes a 1/2 inch drive, and the clearance works for me. Cost was about $20 on Amazon (

Wow, that must have been tight! I just use a short flat steel bar edgeways for loosening / tightening the similar item on the G10 gearbox and Lagonda rear axle. It doesn't need to be tight as it isn't holding anything. Just tight enough to be sure it won't self-unscrew.

Hi Laurence -- it actually wasn't too tight, but when I saw the plug design I thought there should be a better way of putting torque on it. I have the working room underneath for both plugs (the socket is 3+ inches tall, plus the socket wrench), so when I saw this I thought I'd try it. Works on both as they're the same size.

Must admit, it's nice to have a tool thatis entirely right for the job!
Problem I recall was undoing the drain plug on the G10 gearbox on my V12. It was really tight until completely undone. Reason found was that the previous owner had drained the gearbox but not cleaned all the detritus from the threads before screwing the plug back in.
