Subject: Restoration
Readers may be interested in an article I wrote for The Magazine of the Malaysia and Singapore Vintage Car Register on the restoration of my 1934 T7 16/80 here in Malaysia, which can be accessed via the following link:

If you are willing, I think the Hon Editor of the Lagonda Club Magazine should be persuaded to reprint your excellent article, so it reaches a wider audience than this Forum and your own Club Magazine.

It appears you have an ally in our Hon Chairman in this task !

I have no objection to the article appearing in the Lagonda Club Magazine. In fact I sent it to Ken Painter soon after it was first written. Coincidentally Ken is a former member of the Malaysia and Singapore Vintage Car Register.
My 16/80 is used at least once a week and is giving marvellous service, covering at least 3000 miles since the rebuild. The only hiccup was a blocked inline fuel filter which showed the wisdom of fitting it because the original mesh filter which is still in place up-line picked up nothing! A more recent photo is attached.

Brian Savill has kindly corrected my apprehension that the original filter picked up nothing. He has pointed out that the filter in the glass bowl only filters the petrol that goes to the Ki-Gass pump.
The only filters for the main supply are in the carburettors and in the SU pumps. I learn something every day.

I may not understand this correctly - if so please ignore what I write here, but a glass bowl petrol filter works just as wel with an electric SU pump as with a KI-gass pump.
The petrol is sucked by the pump through the mesh at the top of the bowl and the filtered-out dirt etc. sinks to the bottom of the glass where it can be seen and emptied every now and then.

Dear Oakley.
You are wrong. I suggest you look closely at the unit.
Petrol is sucked or pulled into the chamber depending as to the position of the pump.
It then flows directly out.
It does not go through the gauze filter.
The gauze filter only protects the Ki- Gass operation.
Take it apart and have a look.
Brian.

I am not "wrong" - at least not where my own car is concerned. I have no Ki gass system, but an electric SU fuel pump and a glass bowl filter with a fine mesh filter inside it. On my car the pump sucks the petrol through this filter and then pushes it into the carburetters. The filtered residue sinks to the bottom of the glass bowl and can be removed every now and then.
