Is the LG 45 Saloon Body the 'early' 1935/6 design (SB1) or is it the later 1937/8 'Sanction Three' style?

Dear Colin, thanks for your reply.
The bodywork is 1938 and shown in Holthusen´s Book on
page 175. Jan

Thanks Jan,

I took a look at the picture on page 175. Yes this is the later 1937/8 'Sanction Three' style. From a looks point of view, I prefer the earlier SB1 body shown on the previous page. The 3/4 rear picture on page 174 clearly shows the ancestry from the earlier bodies such as the ST24 and ST34, as well as the short-lived ST44 body used on the M45R.

All saloons are getting rare now. Let's hope someone will do something useful with your body.

Hi Jan,

Do you have any pix you can post? I don't have the Holthusen book.
I guess you want to sell it as a whole and not break it up?
Where is the body?

Were they still making LG45s in 1938? My dhc is an S4 - Sept 1937 - I thought that was quite late?

I know of an S4 saloon, chassis number 12269, which according to the Lagonda Club records, was registered on 22/11/1937. The Motor Show was in November and new models would have been displayed at the Motor Show.

Maybe this was a demonstrator run on trade plates and sold off when the LG6 became available.

Dear David,

get back to me by e-mail to jpema@t-online.de
I will post pics to as soon as possible as i am going to beaulieu
and can bring to body work there next week.
As i have written the body is in poor condition but to good to scrap.
The interior is very cheap made but otherwise there are most of the
usefull bits to complete a restoration of another car.
see you jan

I suspect that a sunroof was an option when the car was ordered and this one may not have had one from new.

However, it may be worth checking to see whether it did have one which has been covered over at some time in the past . The structure will show this very clearly if the frame timbers have been exposed.

In the 1950's recovering the whole roof in a sheet of leathercloth was a a cheap way of fixing leaks.
