Subject: Strange V12 brake shoe
here is a question from David

" Alan has noticed that some of our V12 brake shoes have this modification. A saw cut to a hole. This would make the shoe flex a bit. I have not seen this before, have you?
Is it possible it was for the front or rear facing shoe. "

I have not seen this before either, who has an idea ?

Subject: Re: Strange V12 brake shoe
Hi,

Just looked at the rear shoes from my V12. My shoes are different in that they are of welded, not riveted, construction, also there is an additional (redundant) hole on mine just above the riveted/welded section. Neither the hole or saw slot pictured appear on mine.
2 thoughts...under some circumstances the shoes/drums are noisy when brakes are applied...the same noise on both my V12 & LG6...difficult to describe as have driven neither for 10 years! Perhaps this mod. was seen as a "fix" to quieten the brakes?
Or, perhaps it was felt that this would allow the shoe to flex enough to ensure greater contact, perhaps felt necessary if the drums had been skimmed?
