Subject: steering stop on offside brake back plate
Hi all, Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this? What has happened is that the semicircular casting into which the steering stop screws has broken and all I am left with is half a hole - you can see the remains of the thread on the side of the hole.

Several possibilities - have the area welded up and a new hole drilled and tapped - not sure about this with 75 year old metal.
Or, drill and tap the unused area on the near side back plate so that there is a steering stop on both sides of the axle on the near side (I've seen this done on a 4 1/2).
Or use industrial adhesives to fix a new piece of metal, suitably drilled and tapped, to the broken section.

Anyone any experience of such a repair? Any advice?

thanks

to complete the circle and for anyone else with a similar problem, I have had a cylindrical piece of metal fixed into the original space, after a bit of machining out of the area. This cylinder was then welded to a flat piece of metal at right angles and fixed to the back plate with screws. The cylinder is suitably drilled and tapped to take the new steering stop.

Now all I have to do is re-attach it to the car...
