Subject: Which Tyres on the Rapide?
The original tyres on my Rapide were 7.10 15 Avon Turbospeed Mk3's (of which one original is still on the car), four are now 8.15 15 Avon Turbospeed R/R-B. How important is it for me to retain Avon Turbospeed tyres in terms of resale, what if I put on Michelin XWX instead?

The original tyres were crossplies, awful by modern standards. I'd propose there's no evidence to suggest that tyres affect values. The only point about radials whether Avon Turbosteel (which I use) or Michelin XWX is that you'll lose some rolling radius hence speed/revs. There are tyre comparison sites on the web which enable you to calculate the differences. On the Rapide I'd settle for HR rated tyres as good for 135 mph

Thanks David. I've calculated that 225 70 15 (8.15 15) will have a negligable effect on the speed etc over the original. The Michelins look like a good alternative that should look right on the car. I'm asking now as some may be coming my way soon...

Hello all,
I have now put nearly 5,000 miles on the DB Lagonda Rapide. 3,500 miles on the D type wheels with Pirelli Tyres & 1,500 miles on the original wheels with tubes & Avon Steel Radials. Both wheels & tyres are good. I would say the Pirelli's deliver a marginal better ride & grip. Certainly if you are a spirited driver they are a better all weather tyre. I have just about taken both sets up to max speed & neither have scared me beyond the norm

I still can't work out what tyres I should be fitting on my original steel wheels - I've come across two possibilities but both are whitewall... Anybody found any answers to this one?

...what I've found out this evening is that 7.10x15 is 7.10 inches (7 1/4") from the outer face of the side wall to other outer face and 15 inch diameter rim. The depth of the tyre is not given but I measured it as 6 inches. So that equates in modern size to 180 / 85 / 15...which I don't think exists. My spare is 8.15x15, which is 205/75/15...which does exist - 75 is 75% of 205mm - around 150mm.
