Subject: M45 spokes Which are correct?
One of my 5 wheels has straight shank spokes and the other 4 wheels have swaged shanks. I am going to order new spokes from Buchanan's in los Angeles and would like to get the correct type that were used in 1934. Buchanan's can make just about any spoke imaginable and are inexpensive and fast.

Hi,

Not sure which they "actually left the factory with" but all the wheels I have just checked have tapered spokes.
And spoked Centre-Outer almost always.

Regards,
Julian

Thanks for taking the time to look. From what I can gather it would appear that "butted' or tapered spokes first appeared on bicycles in 1896 so who knows maybe Wilbur Gunn was using them from the getgo on his motorcycle. Too bad that little beauty did not survive!
