Subject: Leaf Spring Leather Gaiters
I found these in the raccoon infested loft of the garage where the M45 was stored . They seem to be the correct lengths for the front springs . I will be having a set made , 100% accuracy may be tricky as these have tecalamite fittings so it brings up the question, Did Lagonda ever fit these when the car was new and if so are these old tattered remains original?

Hi Barry,

I think these are original, and I suggest that if you have new ones made up you leave out the Tecalamite fittings and instead bind the springs with grease impregnated tape. In the UK this is called Denso tape (http://www.denso.net/index.htm.)

Your nice smart new gaiters then simply cover up the Denso tape and your springs will never need further attention.

Cheers

Hi Colin, Barry,

Interesting. Were these also original fittings to LG6 & V12? Have had new springs made for the LG6, & the V12's rebuilt, so would like to look after them! No mention of such a fitting in the handbook, & the springs are bare in the photos therein.

Laurence, Where are you located? There is a company in Cleveland that specializes in gaiters etc. That is who will be making mine. I will post the info or email it to you if you are interested. Could be a bargain the way the US dollar is going! Barry
PS thanks yet again Colin!

My V12 de Ville has leather rear spring gaiters fitted (see photo), with modern grease nipples (not tecalemit). I also did not find a factory photo with gaiters fitted so I assume it was done by a caring owner or on special order from the factory.

By the way if you found a good supplier for something we are discussing, please give his address or email on the forum in public. I think we can assume he will agree.
