Subject: Re: LR129 for sale at AML Bonhams auction
I'm not sure that I get your point, David. My understanding is that things can be both contemporary and anachronistic. By way of examples, I would cite string vests, teasmaids, and the Morgan Plus 4. Surprised

I do not seek to denigrate those who favour Webastos or, indeed, any of the above (I, myself, like Morgans). However, all these things (and many others one could think of) are surely anachronistic and, to the eyes of many, without redeeming features.

As i suggest, surely the only thing worth debating in this context is whether the addition of a Webasto affects the value of the car so encumbered and, if it does, to what degree? If that's right, isn't it fair enough to suggest that the bloody things are not popular in the market place? Grinning

Circa £147k is a new high for a Rapide. Not bad for a cat 2/3 car with very poorly fitted bumpers and Jag wheels and spinners (and a Webasto).

Great result, the owner must be very pleased! It's a nice looking Rapide which has had a lot of work done to it, I think the Webasto is a period feature which suits it.

I think it is a fabulous result for the vendor.

It is a well sorted car - but, that's all. It isn't a stunning example, by any means. And, the poorly fitted bumpers and the wheels let it down. Oh, and this Webasto is not a period feature but a rather a relatively recent addition to the car.

Well that's even better then, I wonder what a perfect one would go for?

It was indeed a very good result for 129 but sadly I don't expect it to stay in UK. Re the bumpers, they are I believe the new stainless steel ones made from your template Christian, anf they look good but as Tim says they were not very well fitted being too close to the body in the middle at the front and rear. So when you come to fit yours Christian you will need to experiment with the length of shimming (i.e. the tube through which the mounting stud passes) of the bumpers to ensure about a quarter inch clearance and/or to modify the profile of the upper "trailing edge" of each bumper

Quite right, aligning the bumpers shouldn't be a problem. On mine the spaces were made to suit, they can easily be replaced with the right length ones - my new ones are stainless painted black.

I wonder if this is another Rapide possibly bound for Kuwait or similar part of the world ?

I think that they were actually touching the body (or as good as). I did try and take a photograph of the problem and will try and upload it later (though, it's not very good).

I was wondering whether shimming would, or could, be the answer for 129. It seemed to me that the profile of the trailing edge of each bumper might be 'wrong' for that car, but I can't be sure. David, could you possibly upload an appropriate photograph of one of your bumpers for comparison, please?
