Subject: LR129 for sale at AML Bonhams auction
I have just browsed the AML Bonhams sale at NP.

Only one Rapide is for sale, I already knew the Oz car was not joining in the fun, but the mystery deepens, I didn't spot the Irish car either, perhaps it has sold privately ?

Anyway, LR129 has been put up for sale, with estimate of £60-80 k

It will become a benchmark I suspect, in view of condition and work recently done by the vendor and over time by the previous owner

The Webasto may keep the hammer price down.

I think the Webasto is a great addition especially with the air deflector up, unruffled even in the back. Makes the interior very light

I think Webasto aside, Bonham's have done a lot with this particular car; a large number of photo's, long listing, interesting estimate etc; and they are no doubt hoping to get a very good price on the day.

I wonder why the vendor has kept this car for such a short time - I won't be letting go of mine so quickly.

Excuse me folks, but could anyone tell me what Webasto is and enlighten me on the pro's & con's?

This question may disclose a considerable ignorance on my part but there is only one way to solve this and that is simply ask the question.

Thanks in advance!

Try http://sunroof.webasto.co.uk/ an enjoy enlightenment!

Colin

ps LR129 looks like a nice car. I think it will "zoom". Not for me I think...

I think Webastos are both ugly and anachronistic. To my mind, they smack of the worst aspects of Britain's past - the world that gave us caravans, Berni Inns, Formica, Butlins holiday camps, and cravats.

However, it doesn't matter what I think. What I made reference to was the fact that, in my view, the market doesn't appreciate the idea of car's integrity being imperiled by cutting a hole in the roof and inserting a crude bit of 1950s peculiarly English 'improvement' into it. Like Simon, I follow the market quite closely. In particular, I've made my own little study of this issue, having had this disaster visited upon my own 3 litre Mk2 by some kind person in the past.

So, I stick by my assessment: the Webasto will reduce the hammer price of this Rapide over what it would otherwise have achieved, IMHO - best guess, by at least 10-15%. That said, I do agree with Colin when he says that the price may well 'zoom', nonetheless.

Not sure I get your point Tim about Webastos being an anachronism if fitted when new (50 years ago!) by the factory. When rebuilding my car I had the option of repairing the Webasto or filling in the roof, and I chose to keep it, and I'm glad I did
